ABOUT ANTHONY
My passion for capturing images and the stories they present has guided my career as a visual artist. I’ve been a photographer since I was a teenager, fascinated by the stories a single frame could tell. That led to motion pictures. As a huge fan of films, it seemed a forgone conclusion that my love of visual storytelling would become my career.
I began at Industrial Light & Magic where I became a VFX Editor. I continued my film career as a 1st Asst. Editor working on animated features, both CG and Stop Motion at the following: LAIKA Studios, Netflix Animation, Shadow Machine, and Blue Sky Studios.
During all this time I have learned, experienced, created, and worked with some of the most talented artists in the industry. Through these associations and relationships, my film career has shaped who I am professionally, particularly relating to management and technical implementations.
As a VFX and 1st Asst. Editor, I engage with all departments involved, which requires deep understanding of their requirements, workflows, and communication styles. This has provided me with a generalist’s understanding of all aspects of production, while building my expertise in the editor role.
Working on my own projects, I’ve taken on broader roles in the filmmaking process. Expanding my direct contributions to writing, directing, and marketing my art has been informative and enjoyable necessities as I bring my ideas to fruition with less resources than in my professional roles.
As I mentioned, photography has always been a passion of mine. I now enjoy the simplicity of shooting with an old Kodak Duaflex camera with 120mm film, and appreciate the modern flexibility of my mirrorless Nikon Z8 when I take it on a hike or to a sporting event. I usually come back with way more photos than needed, and dig through them to find something worthy of post-production. The opposite holds true with the Duaflex, in which every negative is precious and more dutifully composed. The balance between these two approaches pushes my learning with every outing.
Overall, I’ve been fortunate to have a career in the visual arts that crosses so many disciplines and exposes me to so many aspects of film making, and the talented, creative people that make it their passion.
